Sauces have always played an important role in our world’s cuisines. They can be used to season a dish, add the finishing touch, or serve as part of the dish in their own right – but whatever the case, sauces are what complete many dishes, both sweet and salty. In terms of flavor, it doesn’t matter if they’re served cold like mayonnaise, warm like pesto, or hot like béchamel. Sauces exist in any variation you can think of – the range is continually growing, and its diversity knows practically no limits.

Ketchup and dressings fall under the market category of sauces, too. These days, there’s no need to take extra steps to prepare most of them, because if you need them on the spot, they can be purchased ready-made in most supermarkets. But most manufacturers still place high value on a natural flavor: Above all, consumers want products with natural and in some cases organic ingredients as well. This quality has to be apparent at first glance – transparent packaging that lets consumers see the product, such as that made from PET and PP, is becoming more popular in particular.

Consumer-friendly solutions

At Greiner Packaging, we produce cups, buckets, bottles, and closures for ketchup, sauces, dips and dressings. Our packaging allows easy dispensing in order to meet the expectations our customers and consumers have with respect to sustainability. This minimizes the amount of leftover product – and therefore valuable food – that remains in the packaging. Thanks to the barrier properties of our packaging, we also ensure that sauces and similar products have as long a shelf life as possible without requiring preservatives. Our unique Kavoblow technology, for example, allows highly transparent plastic bottles to be produced in combination with MBT (multi barrier technology). These bottles also stand out for their temperature stability and have a high oxygen barrier – making them ideal for products that don’t just need an attractive look but also require a shelf life of up to a year. Caps with a silicone membrane are ideal for cleanly dispensing the product without leaving residues behind.

Cardboard-plastic packaging is also considered to be particularly sustainable.

As compared to conventional plastic packaging, the K3^® cup offers a reduction in CO₂ emissions of up to 50%.

The cardboard wrap can be made of either recycled material or grass paper.

Cardboard and plastic can be easily separated. If disposed of separately, they can be 100% recycled.

As the cardboard gives the cup stability, the plastic cup is thinner than conventional plastic packaging.

This saves up to 33% plastic.

Over 610 tons of plastic waste collected: Partnership extended again

In 2019, Greiner Packaging launched its partnership with Plastic Bank by supporting the commissioning of five collection points in Manila, Philippines. The partnership was extended for the third time at the end of 2023. A total of over 610 tons of plastic have already been collected as part of the collaboration.
