To create a stronger shelf presence and further differentiate its dessert portfolio, Olma has introduced new sleeved cup packaging for selected products of its Maty and Cavalier brands. Produced by Greiner Packaging, the new packaging solutions combine eye-catching designs with greater flexibility in cup shapes, helping the products stand out clearly at the point of sale. At the same time, this project reflects how long-term collaboration and tailored packaging concepts can support both portfolio expansion and brand differentiation.
Sleeved cups for more design flexibility
To enhance its product offering, Olma has launched two new desserts packaged in sleeved cups produced by Greiner Packaging. Both packaging solutions are based on a plain white polypropylene (PP) cup that is decorated with a sleeve made of oriented polystyrene (OPS).
One of the sleeved cups is used for Olma’s brand Maty, a yogurt dessert combined with chocolate-hazelnut cream especially for children. The addition of the sleeved cup expands the existing Maty portfolio, which already includes desserts packaged in Greiner Packaging’s K3® cardboard-plastic cup. With the introduction of a second packaging format for Maty, a 150 g sleeved cup with a diameter of 95 mm, Olma is expanding the brand’s packaging range while also benefiting from greater design flexibility, as the sleeve decoration enables a curved cup shape that creates a more distinctive shelf appearance.
The second sleeved cup has been developed for the Cavalier brand, Olma’s dessert range based on quark with a variety of flavors. As with Maty, the sleeve decoration helps the products stand out clearly on the dessert shelf, strengthening their visual presence and brand differentiation.
"With the sleeved cups, we were able to expand our portfolio with new shapes and a distinctive design. This gives us more flexibility in how we present our dessert products on shelf and helps us clearly differentiate between our brands."
Martin Krystian, CEO from Olma
The two new sleeved cups for Olma are already available on the market in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland.
Supporting recyclability with removable sleeves
Alongside design flexibility, recyclability also plays an important role in sleeved packaging solutions. Greiner Packaging therefore offers sleeves equipped with a zipper, allowing consumers to easily remove the sleeve from the cup after use. This supports the separate collection of materials and enables cleaner recycling streams for the PP cup material.
Depending on the available recycling infrastructure, separation can also take place during the recycling process through the sink-float mechanism. Due to different material densities, the components behave differently in water: polypropylene (PP) floats, while sleeve materials may float or sink depending on their specific composition. This supports material separation under suitable conditions.
33 years of partnership and continuous development
The introduction of the new sleeved cups by Olma is the result of a long-standing collaboration with Greiner Packaging. Since 1993, Greiner Packaging has continuously produced cups for the Czech dairy, supporting its development into one of the largest dairies in the Czech Republic. What started with smaller volumes has evolved into a stable and long-term partnership focused on continuously developing packaging solutions tailored to different product requirements and brand concepts.
Today, Greiner Packaging supplies Olma with a broad portfolio of packaging formats, including the K3® cardboard-plastic cup, direct-printed cups, lids, and sleeved cups. The introduction of the new sleeved packaging solutions therefore represents another step in the continuous expansion of the cooperation between the two companies.
Olma is recognized as an innovative dairy, actively developing new product concepts and packaging solutions. This approach aligns closely with Greiner Packaging’s focus on innovation and customized packaging concepts and has contributed significantly to the long duration of the partnership.
"Our long-standing cooperation shows how important it is to grow together with our customers and continuously develop packaging solutions tailored to their needs."
