The Infinity Cup in circulation: How it works

1
Filling:
Your product is filled and sealed in the Infinity Cup.
2
Purchase:
The cup enters the reuse loop via retail. Customers buy the Infinity Cup just like any other product on the shelf.
3
Return:
After consumption, customers return the cups at designated return points. The specific return options depend on the reuse system operator. The Infinity Cup is compatible with the current reverse‑vending machine infrastructure in supermarkets.
4
Reuse:
After industrial cleaning and quality control by the reuse system operator, the cups are prepared for refilling and resealing.

Your Advantages with the Infinity Cup

The Infinity Cup can be reliably resealed after each usecycle, using either aluminum or plastic sealing foils. For you, this means that after industrial cleaning, the reusable cup can be run on your filling line just like a new cup.
Achieve your sustainability goals with the Infinity Cup. Already after 4 cycles in a reusable system, it shows a lower CO₂e footprint than single‑use cups. With increasing reuse, the CO₂e balance continues to improve – at 30 cycles, it is around 30% lower than that of single‑use cups.*
(Comparison: 400 g Infinity Cup vs. 400 g single‑use cup)
When comparing the Infinity Cup with a single‑use cup with an identical aluminum foil lid, plastic savings of around 83% are achieved over 30 reuse cycles.
We support you in integrating the Infinity Cup into your filling processes. In particular, implementation is quick and straightforward on existing filling lines for Ø95‑mm cups, provided the line is suitable for sealing applications.
Thanks to serialized 2D codes, you can keep track of circulation, usage cycles, and the system performance of each individual cup.

Reusable system: succeeding together

The Infinity Cup is part of a holistic reusable packaging concept developed for use in professional return and circular systems. For reusable packaging to become a truly functioning loop, seamless interaction between the packaging, the filling process, and the reuse‑system operator is essential.

Greiner Packaging supports you with technical expertise to ensure the Infinity Cup runs reliably on your filling line and guides you through integration into the reuse system of your choice.

In short: you choose the system partner. You define the business model.
We make sure the packaging is designed for it and works smoothly.

Choose from 3 different decoration options

For identification within the reusable system, In‑Mold Labeling (IML) is used. Serialized codes are integrated directly into the label, clearly identifying the Infinity Cup as a reusable cup within a reuse system. These codes are permanently retained, ensuring reliable traceability across multiple life cycles.

With the IML process, the label is placed directly into the injection‑molding tool and bonds inseparably with the cup. The result is a seamless surface: robust, durable, and visually high‑quality.

FAQ's about the Infinity Cup

Yes. If required, the Infinity cup can be produced with a barrier to protect particularly sensitive foods and ensure shelf life.
The Infinity Cup is suitable for a wide range of food products, from yogurt to ready meals. The reusable cup is temperature‑resistant up to 80 °C and can be easily integrated into existing filling processes (Ø95 mm).
The polypropylene reusable cup is designed for more than 30 usage cycles and therefore meets high requirements for durability and material resistance.

To achieve lower CO₂e emissions than a single-use cup, the Infinity Cup needs to remain in the reuse system for more than four reuse cycles.* With each reuse cycle, the gap in total carbon footprint between the reuse cup and the single-use cup becomes larger. After 30 reuse cycles, the Infinity Cup shows an approximately 30% lower CO₂ footprint compared to single-use cups.

*The calculation is based on a comparison between a 400 g Infinity Cup and a 400 g single-use cup.

After use, consumers can return the cup via reverse vending machines. Return options vary depending on the reuse system operator. The Infinity Cup is compatible with the existing vending machine infrastructure in supermarkets.
You can choose between wash‑off labels, Infinity Twist (folding sleeves), or Infinity Wraps (cardboard banderoles), depending on how you want to present your brand at the point of sale. In‑mold labeling (IML) forms the basis for the serialized codes on the cup, ensuring the codes remain intact throughout the entire life cycle and enable optimal traceability.
*This calculation considers the life cycle of single-use and reusable yogurt cups, including raw material extraction, manufacturing, distribution, filling, washing, and end-of-life. It is based on secondary data for emission factors and input data for specific processes from different sources, with a focus on using primary data where available.

Please note that the results are based on assumptions and may vary depending on distances, materials, weights, databases used for emission factors, and other parameters. A higher level of detail could influence the results. For detailed information on the calculations, please contact Karoline Moosbauer.
