Hidden Surprises Make Recycling Fun – Lipánek’s K3® Cup uses Greiners Cardboard Wrap to its advantage

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the Lipánek brand from dairy company Madeta is delighting children with more than just its creamy dessert. Inside the cardboard wrap of its K3® cardboard-plastic cup, kids can find playful surprises like stickers, contest codes, and even temporary tattoos. The twist? To get to the goodies, they have to remove the cardboard wrap — encouraging them to separate the packaging into its two recyclable parts.

Encouraging Self-Separation Through Play

With this clever design, separating the packaging becomes a fun and intuitive experience for children. Thanks to Greiner’s newly optimized Tear Tab, removing the cardboard wrap from the plastic cup got even easier. It ensures that consumers hold just two parts in their hands when separating the packaging — the cup and the wrap — and no complicated tearing is required.

Lipánek's main goal is to delight their young consumers. That's why they regularly change the hidden surprise inside the cardboard packaging—offering fun items like stickers, temporary tattoos, or sweepstakes. In doing so, the brand promotes together with Greiner Packaging proper waste separation in a playful, hands-on way — ensuring each component of the packaging is correctly sorted for recycling. The result: clean, recyclable material and positive reinforcement for sustainable behavior.

Inside Decoration – Outside Appeal

One of the key advantages of K3® packaging is its design flexibility. Lipánek for example uses the inside of the cardboard wrap to add an element of surprise such as tattoos, but the outside of the cardboard wrap is also fully customizable – supporting Madeta’s brand storytelling and visual identity. In this way, the packaging becomes a communication tool and a sustainability ambassador in one.

K3 r100: self-separating cup

An evolution of the K3® cup, the K3® r100, takes convenience and sustainability to the next level: consumers no longer need to separate the cardboard wrap from the plastic cup themself. During the waste disposal process, the components separate automatically.

K3® - the smart, sustainable packaging

Greiner’s K3® cup is not only visually appealing but also environmentally conscious. How? The cardboard wrap gives the cup structural integrity, allowing the plastic walls to be especially thin. This significantly reduces plastic content. Additionally, both components – cardboard and plastic – can be made from recycled materials, with the wrap containing up to 100% recycled fiber and the cup itself made from recycled plastic such as r-PET.

Pioneering Partnership

Greiner Packaging and Madeta share a partnership built on innovation and trust – one that has lasted for over 25 years. Madeta was the first company in Czeck Republic to bring the K3® cup to market, underlining its role as a packaging trendsetter. Not only the Lipánek Cream desert packes comes from Greiner, also Madeta’s cream spread butter is packaged in Greiner Packaging cups.
