We want to use as little plastic as possible for our packaging – while providing products with the same protection, of course. This helps us use fewer resources. When packaging becomes even lighter, it consumes less CO2 during transport. And our efforts mean that less waste is produced.
We’re convinced that our cardboard-plastic combinations (K3®) are especially sustainable. The thin plastic cup is wrapped in cardboard, which gives it the necessary stability. Recycled material or even grass paper can be used to make the cardboard. As a result, K3® packaging saves a lot of plastic. However, it’s also highly suitable for recycling, because it’s easy to separate the plastic and cardboard from one another. The components can be disposed of separately and are 100 percent recyclable after separation:
Cardboard → wastepaper
Plastic → yellow sack/yellow container
Aluminum lid → metal
Packaging made of recycled materials often has a grayish/greenish color. This is caused by printing ink, among other things. in the case of K3-packaging, the cup is (white or transparent). In other words, the packaging doesn’t have any inks that cause impurities in the recycled material.
Cardboard-plastic combinations are already a good choice in terms of the environment today. Nonetheless, we’re still improving our K3® packaging on an ongoing basis. The most recent example is the new tear tab we developed for the cardboard wrap together with Offset-Druckerei Schwarzach. This tab is now even easier to remove.

In 2019, Greiner Packaging launched its partnership with Plastic Bank by supporting the commissioning of five collection points in Manila, Philippines. The partnership was extended for the third time at the end of 2023. A total of over 610 tons of plastic have already been collected as part of the collaboration.
